BSB30315 Certificate III in Micro Business Operations

About the course

Thinking of opening your own home based business? When your job is at stake, what else would you do but running your own business – be it small or big? Sometimes it’s even better to work for yourself rather than for someone else. This qualification reflects the role of skilled independent micro-business owners who apply a broad range of competencies in varied contexts, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. You will learn the essential aspects of running a micro business – from business planing to marketing, from selling your products to keeping track of cash flow, while complying with the relevant legislation.

NSW Govt subsidy

Commonwealth welfare recipients may be eligible for NSW Govt subsidy which may bring the fee down to $240 or in some instances making it fully subsidised. As a general rule, you will need to meet the following criteria to be eligible for subsidised fee:

Australian PR or Citizen
Over 15 years old and not in school
Living or working in NSW

For maximum subsidy, you will need to be a commonwealth welfare recipient e.g. Job Seeker payment, Family Tax Benefit, Carer Payment etc. For further information on NSW Smart and Skilled funding and to see if you are eligible, please visit www.smartandskilled.nsw.gov.au. Whilst students receiving certain Commonwealth welfare benefit would be eligible for a subsidised fee of $240, some students may be eligible for fee free enrolment. You will be advised upon submission of your enrolment form and other relevant documents if you are eligible for full subsidy.

BSB30315 Certificate III in Micro Business Operations may also be available on full subsidy or fee free under Skilling for Recovery funding (subject to the availability of funding) for eligible candidates. Apart from meeting the normal Smart and Skilled eligibility criteria, students enrolling under Skilling for Recovery must meet one of the following criteria:

• A young person aged 17 to 24 at commencement of training, regardless of employment status, including Year 12 School leavers
• A person who is a recipient of a Commonwealth Government welfare benefit as specified in the Smart and Skilled Fee Administration Policy
• An unemployed person
• An employed person who is at risk of losing their job, for example:

*Stood down/Jobkeeper/furloughed employee: Employee that has been stood down or employee for whom employer has JobKeeper arrangement in place and at risk of becoming unemployed. Requires upskilling or reskilling for new role and employment elsewhere* *Person returning to work (employed for 6 months or less): employed on condition of receiving training to build capacity and capability for the job role. This would be within the first 6 months of employment* *Low skilled/unskilled employee: Existing employee, with or without relevant skills or previous qualification up to Certificate III, that requires training to upskill to secure ongoing employment or future employment* Workers in declining industries: Workers at any company in an agreed declining industry (e.g. international travel industry) who require upskilling/reskilling for redeployment

Assessment strategies

Assessments for this qualification include both formative and summative assessments and include questions and answers, portfolio of evidence, project assignments and third party report. You will be provided with assessment tasks at the beginning of your course during the face to face session.

Delivery strategy

This qualification will be delivered in a classroom environment by a qualified industry skilled trainer at Western Sydney Skills Hub at North Parramatta. Address – 410 Church St, Level 3, Suite 34, North Parramatta, NSW 2151. Please note that classes may not be available when you are reading this course description but the college still encourages the potential candidates to register their interest by joining the waiting list (available at the bottom of this page). In class delivery includes:

  • Classroom delivery by experienced and industry skilled trainer
  • Simulated in class experience
  • Activities performed in the class
  • Role play as required in a given unit of competency
  • Audio/Video presentation to introduce learners with real life scenarios
  • Self-paced trainer led activities to reinforce, extend and reflect on what has been learnt in the class

This course will be delivered over 15 weeks (2 days a week, 5 hours a day from 9.30 am to 3 pm excluding lunch break). This qualification may not have any classes during the school holiday but you will be advised if such is the case. Depending on your current knowledge and skills, 15 to 20 hours of home study per week is recommended to complete reading the learner guides, doing research if required and complete the activities.

Pre-requisites

Candidates are required to have a satisfactory level of language, literacy and numeracy skills to successfully complete this qualification. Before you enrol into this course, you will need to sit for an LLN Test to demonstrate your LLN skills. If your LLN skills are lower than satisfactory level or if you believe you will need to develop your English language skills, the Parramatta College has a range of English courses to suit individual student’s needs. Please contact our office on 02 96872072 to book for the LLN Test. The test will take approximately 1 hour to complete and is delivered at our North Parramatta venue.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If you believe you have relevant skills and experience satisfying the competency requirement of this qualification, please consult with your trainer for the possibility of recognition. The trainer will provide you with a clear guideline on the RPL assessments and evidence requirements. As a general rule, you will need to produce current or recent workplace evidence to claim recognition for each of the 8 units of competency in this qualification. The assessor will check your evidence and make a decision, which will be either Competent or Not Yet Competent. If Not Yet Competent, you will be duly notified and asked to make a further submission. If you are still considered Not Yet Competent, we may offer you a gap tutorial, which will attract extra fee.

Final outcome

Upon successful completion of the units listed above, you will be awarded with BSB30315 Certificate III in Micro Business Operations.
